The brand-new VW Virtus surfaces in first sketch

VW Virtus 2018

The Polo-based sedan comes in 2018, starting with Brazil

The new Volkswagen Virtus will be launched in January 2018 in Brazil, and will soon be available across South America. Expect it to sell also in India and other markets under the Vento moniker.

Based on the Volkswagen Polo, the Virtus stands on a stretched version of the MQB-A0 platform. With a wheelbase that's 13 cm (5 in) longer, the Volkswagen Virtus is basically a Polo sedan with more space for the rear passengers and their luggage.

Expect it to have similar trims as the Polo, as well as a starting price tag of R$60.9 mil in Brazil ($19.000). Under the hood, there's a choice between a 1.6 MSI delivering 120 hp mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, and a 1.0 TSI developing 128 hp, mated to a six-speed manual or a Tiptronic automatic. No word about the 1.5 diesel yet.

More details about the car will follow soon, as it is scheduled to launch in January 2018.
