2017 Toyota Highlander Has More V6 Power, US Price Starts at $30,630

Revised looks, LED taillights and new safety features

New for 2017 is the SE trim level described by Toyota as premium and sporty, while the Highlander hybrid bags two new grades – LE and XLE.

Appearance-wise, the Toyota Highlander 2017MY features subtle makeovers for the front and rear spoilers, while the cabin features "enhanced interior convenience and comfort."

On the safety front, Toyota unlocked its Safety Sense package, which is included in the standard items inventory for the 2017 Highlander. The bundle includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, and dynamic radar cruise control, among other features.

Additionally, the Highlander V6 – fitted with the 3.5-liter D-4S unit – now pushes 295 hp and 263 lb-ft, which stands for an increase of 25 hp and 15 lb-ft over the 2016 Highlander.

The resource bump is handled by a Direct Shift eight-speed automatic gearbox. Subsequently, the same V6 powerplant is now the base for the Highlander Hybrid.

According to Toyota, the new engine-transmission duo returns an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway.

Five grades set the tone for the 2017 Highlander: LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, and Limited.

The entry-level LE four-cylinder 2WD model opens the price list at $30,630, while the Highlander Hybrid in LE spec wears a $36,270 sticker.

Prices do not include delivery, processing and handling taxes ($940). The 2017 Toyota Highlander is expected to reach showrooms mid-November.
