Mercedes-AMG celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2017, so the high-performance division needed a special project to mark the event.

Enter the facelifted 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT lineup, highlighted by a new special edition model, the Edition 50. The GT lineup has received both styling and performance upgrades for the new model year, as well as a new family member: the AMG GT C Coupé slotting between the AMG GT S and AMG GT R.

The Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupé will initially be available exclusively as a special Edition 50 model, offered in two exclusive special paint finishes: gray magno and white magno. Striking upgrades also include black chrome highlights, the darkened Panamericana grille, and the cross-spoke AMG forged wheels in black chrome as well.

Inside, Edition 50 features a contrast between black and silver, with nappa leather in silver pearl/black and black AMG Performance steering wheel. Edition 50 models come as standard with the AMG Interior Night package, which brings steering wheel spokes, shift paddles and door sill panels in black.

Besides the addition of the GT C Coupé that brings the same updates as the AMG GT C Roadster (including standard rear-axle steering), the Mercedes-AMG GT and AMG GT S receive visual and technical upgrades for the new model year.

Styling-wise, they get a new front end that sports the AMG Panamericana grille as well as a new front apron with larger outer air inlets. All AMG GT models also receive the AIRPANEL active air management system from the AMG GT R — the system is essentially an active grille.

The makeover brings power upgrades as well for the entry-level GT model and the GT S version. The standard Mercedes-AMG GT's 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine now delivers 469 hp and 630 Nm of torque, 14 hp and 30 Nm more than before. As for the GT S, output grows by 12 hp to 515 hp while peak torque climbs 20 Nm to 670 Nm. GT C and GT R remain unchanged, with 550 hp and 577 hp, respectively.
