2017 Ford F-150 Gets All-New 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 10-Speed Auto

Improved city, highway, and combined EPA fuel economy ratings ensue

The 2017 Ford F-150 has received the second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 twin-turbocharged gasoline engine, paired with the new 10-speed automatic transmission.

With the new powertrain, America's best-selling pickup truck sees improvements in all three EPA fuel economy label estimates over the 2016 F-150. The all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivers 375 hp and 470 lb-ft (636 Nm) of torque, accounting for a gain of 10 hp and 50 lb-ft over the previous generation engine. Mated exclusively to the first volume-production 10-speed automatic transmission, the engine returns better EPA-estimated city, highway and combined fuel economy.

Combined fuel economy for 2017 F-150 4×2 models fitted with the new powertrain increases by 1 mpg, while 4×4 versions see an improvement of 2 mpg. The 2017 F-150 4×2 is EPA-rated at 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined, while the 2017 F-150 4×4 returns 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.

In addition, the F-150 equipped with the new engine and transmission is said to offer improved acceleration, performance, and refinement. Ford says the new powertrain combination provides "better low-end and peak performance, which is ideal for hauling heavy payloads and towing heavy trailers."
