2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack Nets Five-Star NHTSA Safety Rating

You know what they say: lose some (beauty), win some (safety)

So, earlier this year, Volkswagen thought they should do what Subaru has been doing with the Outback. Therefore, they took the VW Golf estate aka SportWagen, jacked up its suspension by 0.8 inches and rounded up the package with additional black cladding, a pair of roof rails and a 4MOTION all-wheel drive setup.

As part of a car's career on the US market, the Golf Alltrack had to undergo a set of safety test orchestrated by the NHTSA, which it did. It also managed to come out with a five-star overall crash-test rating. Broken down, the performance looks like this: four stars for the frontal crash and rollover tests (rollover risk stands 13.4%), followed by five stars for the side crash.

Responsible for that are the six airbags offered as standard but also the suite of driver assist functions available on the Alltrack. Every car offers ESC, an automatic post-collision braking system, and VW's intelligent crash response feature plus the aforementioned four-wheel drive system.

Additionally, clients can specify extra safety-guarding features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, and parking steering assistant.
