2018 Toyota Supra Spied With Less Camouflage Apparel

Getting naked one spyshot at a time

Toyota's next sports car is starting to catch shape after the upcoming so-called Supra was spotted again, this time wearing lighter camo clothing during pre-production testing.

You are looking at a different Supra prototype from the one we spied lapping the Nürburgring, which was wearing black BMW M4 GTS-style rims but didn't reveal an inch of its body.

This prototype, however, flaunts massive air intakes, round taillights, and a dual exhaust system like the GT86 (86 in the United States).

Moreover, you can spot the double-bubble roof and the cheeky rear spoiler hinting at the Toyota FT-1 prototype which is deemed as the chief design donor for the new Supra – naturally, in a discretely diluted fashion.

Design aside, the most discussed aspect of the upcoming Supra – which will share underpinnings with the new BMW Z5 – is the powertrain choice.

Reports mention LMP1 hybrid tech as a potential beating heart for the coupé, while other voices announce a six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

If Toyota considered fitting a hybrid powertrain under the car's stretched hood, it could consist of a 2.0-liter turbo ICE (internal combustion engine) and one electric motor for each axle.

In any case, we should see the 2018 Supra in the metal next year, most likely towards the end of 2017.
