All-New Mazda MX-5 Gets Icon Special Edition in the UK

The all-new Mazda MX-5 gets a first special edition in Britain called the Icon

Available in a run of 600 units for the UK market, the MX-5 Icon is the first special edition model available in the UK that's based on the 1.5-liter version of the roadster. The model will make its public debut at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed (June 24-26) and will go on sale on August 1 with a starting price of £20,995 (on-the-road).

Based on the SE-L Nav trim, the Mazda MX-5 Icon features contrasting design cues and more standard equipment. The wing mirrors, rear spoiler, side stripe decals and front skirt are painted Soul Red Metallic, in contrast with the 16-inch Gunmetal alloy wheels. Additional standard equipment over the SE-L Nav trim includes black leather seats, rear parking sensors, automatic lights, and rain-sensing wipers.

Nothing changes under the hood, with the Mazda MX-5 Icon featuring the same 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine rated at 131 PS (129 hp) 7,000 rpm and 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) of torque at 4,800 rpm.

The new Mazda MX-5 special edition model is the fourth car to wear the Icon badge, following the MX-5 Icon special editions sold in the UK in 2000, 2005, and 2007.

Besides the MX-5 Icon, this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed will also host the European debut of the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF, as well as the first appearance outside of North America for the MX-5 Speedster and Spyder concept cars.
