Ford to Start Building Updated EcoSport Crossover in Romania

It will adopt current Ford family face and feature extensive customization options

The EcoSport small crossover has been the exact opposite of a success story for Ford, which is why it’s been updated twice and now on for a third (major) update. The India-made model was not only badly built, but also looked kind of awkward and in the end it failed to win over the hearts and mind of European customers.

Ford doesn’t want to rid itself of the EcoSport and it wants to make the updated version of it at the plant it owns in Craiova, Romania. I’ve seen the EcoSport they’re planning to make there and it thankfully looks a lot less ridiculous with its new styling.

Its fascia will mirror that of the facelifted Kuga / Escape along with the rest of the Ford range. It will also gain an improved interior featuring updated design cues and better materials, along with a bigger infotainment screen.

The automaker will also put much more emphasis than before on customization. You’ll be able to order a contrasting roof and different trim materials inside to make an EcoSport your own – there will even be an ST Line variant, with bigger wheels, blacked out trim and absolutely no performance-enhancing options whatsoever.

Production of the revamped model is expected to commence in the fall of 2017 and the vehicle will look something like the (badly) rendered interpretation posted here.
