Genesis’ BMW 3-Series Rival Will Look A Bit Like This Concept

Genesis, Hyundai’s fledgling premium sub-brand, has just revealed the New York concept at… the New York auto show. The study is clearly quite far removed from production, yet you can definitely see the shape being toned down for series manufacturing.

So far it’s the most ambitious concept shown by the automaker, not only in the way it looks, but also in the announcement it’s making: Genesis is targeting the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class with an eventual production incarnation.

Design-wise, the study is very muscular and European-looking, with the usual broad shoulders and planted stance that we’ve come to expect from premium saloons – Hyundai calls the design language “Athletic Elegance.” Now, while the exterior could be passed for that of a production car with minimal interventions, the interior is pure decadent concept.

It seems much further from what current production premium sedans look like, although maybe it foretells what automotive interior design will look like by the time it Genesis launches the car. Also, while it may be heavily curved and stylized, the dash and center stack layout and design do seem functional on top of looking good.

Expect to see the production result of this study revealed sometime in 2017, possibly bearing the G70 moniker.
