Hyundai’s Adds Spice To i20 With Germany-Bound Sport Version

Power for the i20 Sport comes from a turbocharged 1.0-liter with 118 hp

Hyundai isn’t really an automotive nameplate we associate with a sporty image, but the automaker is desperately trying to change that. It’s mainly going about it with the newly-created N performance brand, but also less significant single model efforts like the new i20 Sport.

The i20 is Hyundai’s €19,990 answer to the VW Polo and Renault Clio in Europe, but unlike its better-established rivals, it didn’t feature any warm or hot variants. The i20 Sport steps in to correct that, yet Hyundai has announce it’s only going to sell it in Germany.

Power for the i20 Sport comes from a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder that pumps out 118 hp / 172 Nm. That makes it good for a benchmark sprint time of 10.3 seconds, which doesn’t really sound that impressive these days; you can’t really call it a warm hatch with numbers like those…

Other unique features exclusively offered on this model are 18-inch rims by OZ, a rear lip spoiler located above the rear window, a more aggressive redesigned front bumper and matching side skirts.
