Is There a Point to Buying this Original WWII Kübelwagen Tank Dummy from eBay?

Absolutely; there are so many amusing things you could do if you owned one of these…

In the right hands, this period WWII tank dummy would certainly find uses: it could be used in movies, as a theme car to promote something or even as an unusual weekend ride and conversation starter for its driver.

What you’re looking at here is basically a tank decoy from the last great war that’s built atop a VW Type 82, affectionately known as the Kübelwagen. This faux tank was apparently used mostly for training purposes back during the war, but also as an actual dummy to draw fire – if you do an internet search, it seems its most common name was Porsche 823.

According to the seller on eBay, this example is genuine (or at least surely built on genuine Kübelwagen underpinnings) and it was built in the year 1940.

It looks like it’s in excellent condition, but he also points out he acquired it from an auction held by the National Military History Center, over in Auburn, Michigan.

Current bid for the vehicle is approaching $17,000, but there’s still over a week left to place yours before bidding closes.
