Lexus USA has released detailed information about the all-new 2016 RX

Lexus has released detailed information on the all-new 2016 RX SUV, which is available in the United States in two versions, the RX 350 and RX 450h.

The RX 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers 295 hp at 6,300 rpm and 267 lb-ft (362 Nm) of torque at 4,700 rpm. It uses a D-4S direct fuel injection system and an all-new cylinder head design with reshaped intake ports and combustion chambers for better efficiency.

The engine also features Variable Valve Timing with intelligence Wide (VVT-iW) on the intake side and VVT-i on the exhaust side. VVT-iW has allowed the adoption of the Atkinson cycle to improve fuel economy.

The 2016 Lexus RX 450h features a completely reengineered 3.5-liter direct-injected V6 hybrid engine which is an evolution of the base six-cylinder unit. It has a combined system output of 308 hp at 6,000 rpm and 247 lb-ft (335 Nm) of torque at 4,600 rpm. The RX 450h also features newly shaped intake ports and combustion chambers for an improved combustion.

The hybrid system in the RX 450h is latest iteration of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system, with key components and control systems enhanced and reengineered to deliver “impressive fuel economy, low emissions and excellent on-road performance,” according to Lexus.

The 2016 Lexus RX can be had with two different all-wheel drive systems. While the RX 350 AWD is fitted with the Dynamic Torque Control AWD system, the RX 450h gets the sophisticated Lexus E-Four system. E-Four uses all-wheel drive only when necessary.

The Lexus Safety System + package is also available, offering active safety technologies such as Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Intelligent High Beam (IHB) and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
