Long-Wheelbase VW Tiguan Debuts in Detroit with 184 HP and Extra Cargo Space

To be called Tiguan Allspace in Europe

Volkswagen's other arrival in Detroit is the stretched Tiguan, based on the company's MQB underpinnings and 10.7-inch (27 cm) longer than the regular Tiguan.

Just like the Atlas, the longer Tiguan was born with the American customer in mind, hence the increase in size to 185.2 inches (470 cm) and the cargo capacity boosted by 57 percent, if we are to believe VW's press write-up.

VW also mentions a 26-degree approach angle that should provide some off-road prowess, yet the elongated Tiguan remains a model mainly wrapped around comfort and connectivity.

The interior went through a nip and tuck job while customers can optionally select the Digital Cockpit display and the Car-Net system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink.

Grunt-wise, VW solely picked a revised version of its 2.0-liter TSI unit for the job of moving the long Tiguan with the help of 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque.

Base models use an eight-speed auto that channels the resources to the front wheels, while the 4Motion all-wheel drive setup comes as an option, together with Active Control.

In North America and China, the extended-wheelbase Tiguan will be marketed as such, but in Europe, it will use the Allspace designation to set it apart from the standard Tiguan.
