Nvidia Shows Dedicated Self Driving Artificial Intelligence Module At CES 2016

It’s called Drive PX2 and it’s a follow-up to last year’s Drive PX

Having a vehicle drive itself requires a lot of processing power and there is a need for dedicated solutions to cater for this need. Graphics chipset giant Nvidia is the first major company to come up with a dedicated AI unit specifically conceived for self-driving cars – it’s called Drive PX2 and it’s a follow-up to last year’s Drive PX.

It was revealed and given context through a presentation at this year’s edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

From a hardware standpoint, so far we’ve been told it has no fewer than 12 processing cores, it requires liquid cooling and is supposedly able reach 24 trillion operations per second

Jen-Hsun Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, said ”we won’t realize the full potential of our vision unless we can solve city driving," adding that “Bikers are in the same road you are… People are sometimes following the rules and most times not… It's very chaotic and very hard.”

Huang also reportedly confirmed that the first automaker to use the PX2 will be Volvo, refraining from adding any further details on the matter.
