There’s Your Better Looking Audi R8: Meet the New Spyder

In case you had a word against the new R8 design, there’s the solution for you: a sans-rooftop Spyder.

While Audi is known for its conservative design (not necessary a good thing, either a bad one in most cases), they tried something different with the new R8. And they kinda fouled it.

Yes, we are talking about the aluminium side blades that disappeared in the making of the new Audi super-runner, leaving most of us disappointed, to be honest. Fortunately, the R8 has something to shut our mouths with, and that is the engine.

And now, now we are given the R8 Spyder, a roadster version animated by the same 5.2-liter V10 power plant. As in the case of the Coupé, the engine delivers 540 hp, enough for the droptop to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds, and to a maximum speed of 197 mph.

What do you get in exchange of the tenth of a second you're losing to the Coupé (0-to-62 in 3.5 secs)? Well, unlimited head space. The fabric rooftop hides in the back in just 20 seconds, at speeds up to 31mph, revealing the skies over your head whenever you want it.

Plus, it looks better than the Coupé. Sorry, just couldn't help it.
