We must ask: how come Takata is still around?
Toyota is facing another session of recalls stemming from the notorious issue of Takata's faulty airbags.
5.8 million Toyotas spread around the world will be recalled over defective Takata airbags.
According to the BBC, the affected units include the likes of Yaris/Vitz and Corolla marketed in Europe, China, and Japan.
Additionally, Reuters reports that some of the affected cars are fitted with some 20,000 inflators being "used as replacement parts following a 2010 recall," making the implications of the scandal run from deep to deeper.
Furthermore, the BBC breaks down the 5.8 million tally as it follows: 1.47 million cars are sold in Europe, 1.16 million in Japan, 820,000 in China and the remaining 2.35 million go to other areas, but no the United States (Central and South America, Africa and Singapore).
The scandal took off in 2008 and has been unraveling for eight years now, claiming 11 lives in the United States and affecting the better part of 100 million cars worldwide.
