Your Tesla Model S Is One Malware-Filled Android App Away From Being Stolen

Security flaws seem to be inevitable whenever phones and third party apps are involved

Tesla owners, beware what app you install on the phone you also use to control your car – that app might be stealing your login credentials thus allowing criminals to just walk in and swipe your ride.

As demonstrated by Norway’s Promon, a security company specializing in mobile apps, it’s dead easy to do it. All you need is an app which you create for the sole purpose of stealing credentials, and after that you need to target it at Tesla owners.

If one Tesla owner gets you dummy app, they will not only inadvertently give you their login info for the car’s app, but they’ll also track it wherever it goes.

Then all the person trying to steal your car has to is to pick a moment when you’re not with your car and when they won’t be seen, and they can easily unlock it and drive away. And you won’t hear them doing so courtesy of electric cars’ silent running nature.
