136k BMWs Recalled Over Fuel Leak Risk

This is the second major recall for BMW this year

BMW plans on recalling 136,188 2010-2012 5 Series, 6 Series, X5, and X6 models over a potential problem with the fuel pump.

Because of a lack of crimped wire contacts – which can lead to resistance and extra heat, the in-tank fuel pump can show a malfunction in time; the plastic around the contact pins can melt, this leading to fuel leaks and, furthermore, to engine stalling.

Since 2011, when customers complained about fuel odors in their vehicle cabins, BMW conducted a series of recalls around the world – in China in 2014, Japan in 2015 and South Korea in 2016; now, the United States.

The US recall concerns the 5 Series (’10-’11 5 GT, ’11-’12 528i/535i/550i), the 6 Series (2012 640i and 650i), the 2007-2011 X5, the 2008-2011 X6, and the 2010-2011 X6 ActiveHybrid vehicles.

This is the second major recall for BMW in 2016: in June, it recalled 210,000 crossovers for a problem regarding the child safety seats’ attachment points. Oh, and there was another important recall we’ve mentioned of recently.
