1947 Duesenberg-engined hot rod is one of a kind

It’s also extremely fast, too

Back in the 1930s it was quite rare to see the engine out of an uber expensive Duesenberg used as a hot rod power plant. But at least one such vehicle does exist from the period, this amazing looking hot rod built right after the war, in 1947.

It is essentially a Ford two door whose front part has been stretched to accommodate the mighty 1934 Duesenberg straight-eight lump. The engine itself is not stock and has had its capacity and compression ratio increased, while its single carburetor has been swapped out for four individual carbs, one for every two cylinders.

The engine is the star of the show, and with the modifications it has on it, its current owner suggests it’s pushing upward of 400 hp (versus the stock 265 hp).

Jay Leno drives this car in one of his latest videos, and you can see just how much he wants to own it. He actually says he was really serious about buying it in the past, but his proposed offer at the time was turned down.
