2017 Dodge Challenger GT Gets AWD, But No Real Muscle

The all-wheel drive system is available for the moderate V6 engine only

We knew for some time now that the Challenger would also receive an all-wheel drive version, along with a Rocket Bunny-esque wide-body model.

So here it is, pictured above, prepared for the winter – or any other low-grip situation, for that matter.

There’s only one big mention to make here: it only gets the AWD along with the V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

At 305 hp and 268 lb-ft, the 3.6-liter unit is not what you’d call numb, but it’s not the 707 hp worth of pumped muscle either. But this way it can make the most of this setup, marketing-wise: it’s the cheapest choice in the all-wheel drive coupés stable, when compared to the Audi A5 quattro, BMW 430i xDrive, and Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic Coupé.

The all-wheel-drive system uses an active transfer case able to disconnect the front axle when its input is not needed, hence improving the car’s fuel economy – which is rated at 21 mpg (in a combined urban/highway cycle). Prices for the Challenger GT start at $34,490.
