Lincoln has given the MKZ a significant makeover for the 2017 model year
Lincoln has applied aesthetic tweaks to the 2017 MKZ sedan and has added a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that's exclusive to the brand.
While the styling update is not dramatic, it borrows a lot from the Lincoln Continental Concept unveiled at the 2015 New York Auto Show – the new one-piece grille is unmistakable, while the adaptive LED headlights also remind of the study. The hood has been updated as well, while the interior is carried over unchanged.
However, the 2017 MKZ’s floating center console features new switches and dials that replace slider adjustments for easier control of ventilation and audio functions.
From a mechanical perspective, the big news is the addition of an available Lincoln-exclusive 3.0-liter GTDI V6 twin-turbocharged engine, which produces 400 hp and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque when paired with an all-wheel drive system and 350 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque in standard front-wheel drive configuration.
Customers choosing the new twin-turbo V6 will be able to select the Dynamic Torque Vectoring system, offered as part of the available Driver’s Package. Lincoln says the system enhances cornering agility without compromising ride comfort, “helping drivers enjoy a smooth, seamless experience.”
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ also offers a 2.0-liter GTDI turbocharged four-cylinder engine with four-wheel drive rated at 245 hp. A hybrid alternative is available as well.
Also part of the Driver’s Package is the Lincoln Drive Control system, which allows drivers to select between three drive modes – comfort, normal and sport. The system combines continuously controlled damping with electric power-assisted steering.
The Driver’s Package for the 2017 Lincoln MKZ with the 3.0-liter V6 also includes 19-inch wheels, Ebony-painted calipers, light Magnetic-painted grille, Ebony interior with carbon fiber trim, customizable multi-contour seats and aluminum pedal covers.
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ goes on sale in summer 2016 in the United States.
