2017 Ram 1500 gains Sublime Sport and Rebel Blue Streak editions for NYIAS

The vivid colors don’t change the fact that Ram’s full-size pickup has been around since 2008

Manufacturers have been abusing the term "special edition" for years, and Ram makes no exception.

The truck maker will unveil two new pickups at the New York Auto Show that don't bring much more than striking exterior colors.

The first of them is the 2017 Ram 1500 Sublime Sport, which stands out thanks to its green monochromatic exterior and matching grille. The model also features a Sport performance hood and several black elements including the wheels, head grille badge, tailgate badge, and body-side badges.

For the first time, 22-inch black aluminum wheels are available on the Ram 1500, but only for two-wheel-drive models — 20-inch for AWD versions. Inside, the Sublime Sport adds Lime Green accent stitching throughout the cabin, as well as Lime Green embroidery on the headrests, sport mesh seat inserts, and Sport badge on the glove box door. Anodized black-painted spears and trim rings complete the changes.

Ram will build just over 3,000 units of the Sublime Sport, with sales starting next month. The pack is available on Crew Cab V-8 models with a starting price of $45,740 (plus $1,395 destination).

The second "special edition" model to be showcased in New York is the 2017 Ram 1500 Rebel Blue Streak. Essentially a 1500 Rebel with a Blue Streak exterior paint, the model can be ordered with the Rebel Black appearance package for a more sinister look. An optional two-tone livery with Black lower paint is also available.\

Inside, the Rebel Blue Streak sports black anodized bezels on the doors, center console, instrument panel and gauge cluster trim rings, Slate Gray accent stitching, and deep rubber floor mats. Ram also offers optional all-black leather seats.

Available in all Rebel configurations and options from $45,095 (excluding $1,395 destination), the Rebel Blue Streak will arrive in dealerships in May 2017.
