2017 Volkswagen Golf Facelift Starts at €17,850, Configurator Says €19,625

It’s all marketing

The 2017 VW Golf facelift, or the Golf 7.5 if we are to use Wolfsburg's label preference, can now be ordered and the model configurator is also online.

Using the "new Golf, old price" phrase, Volkswagen's press blurb advertises a starting price of €17,850 for the refreshed Golf, while the configurator reveals the €19,625 starting sticker.

So what's the trick? Well, VW explains that €17,850 is the price for the entry-level 1.0-liter Golf TSI Trendline with 83 PS (63 kW), while the €19,625 tag refers to the same 1.0-liter Golf TSI but with a power bump to 110 PS (81 kW).

Therefore, VW is charging €1,775 for the extra 27 PS (18 kW).

Together with the hatchback, VW's Golf Variant, Alltrack (€33,650), and GTI (€29,975) have opened their order books. Furthermore, the Golf and Golf Variant ranges are split between the Trendline, Comfortline and Highline trim versions.

Every 2017 Golf offers the Composition Colour infotainment system, LED DRLs and taillights, air conditioning and a stop/start system.

At the other end of the straw, Highline brings LED headlights, Climatronic (automatic climate control) and 17-inch alloys.
