2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio priced from $41,995 in the U.S.

That’s more than the Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3, but the Alfa is better-equipped

Alfa Romeo's first SUV finally has a price in the United States, with the automaker announcing the base model will start from $41,995 (excluding $995 destination).

That's about the same price as the Jaguar F-Pace ($42,065), but higher than the Mercedes-Benz GLC ($39,150) and the BMW X3 ($40,050).

To its defense, Alfa Romeo says the Stelvio comes "very well-equipped with many standard premium features," including the Q4 all-wheel-drive system and a 280-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that offers more power than the competition.

Marketed as a sporty SUV, the Stelvio sprints from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 144 mph (232 km/h).

When it goes on sale later this summer, the Stelvio lineup will be consist of two models: the base Stelvio and the better-equipped Stelvio Ti (Turismo Internazionale), which starts from $43,995 (excluding $995 destination). The high-performance, 510-hp Stelvio Quadrifoglio will arrive later this year.

Customers who opt for the base 2018 Stelvio get standard features such as bi-xenon headlights with LED DRLs, LED taillights, leather interior, DNA drive mode selector, remote start with passive entry, backup camera with rear park sensors, power liftgate, flat-bottomed steering wheel, 7-inch TFT, 18-inch alloy wheels and more. Alfa Romeo also offers a better-equipped Sport Package for the base Stelvio, priced at $1,800.

Upgrading to the Stelvio Ti adds 19-inch wheels, front park sensors, wood interior trim, an 8.8-inch widescreen infotainment system, heated seats, and heated steering wheel, among other things. The available Ti Sport and Ti Lusso packages ($2,500 each) bring even more features.

All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, Q4 all-wheel-drive system, as well as safety assist tech including Full-speed Forward Collision Warning – Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control – Plus with Full Stop, and Lane Departure Warning.
