M3, M4, what’s the difference?
Just in time for the summer of 1988, BMW M unveiled its first open-top model, the M3 Convertible. Fast forward thirty years and the M3 Convertible is no more, with its successor now called the M4 Convertible.
BMW M couldn't let the 30-year anniversary pass unnoticed, so this is what they came up with: the BMW M4 Convertible 30 Jahre Edition.
Built in a limited run of 300 units, each fitted with the M Competition Package, the special-edition M4 Convertible comes loaded with goodies. For starters, it gets the 450-hp version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine, an M Sport exhaust system, adaptive M suspension with specific Sport mode, and "an extremely sporty configuration" of the stability control system DSC and the Active M differential.
This technological tour de force is accompanied by several design and equipment upgrades aimed at differentiating it from regular drop-top M4s.
On the outside, customers can only choose from two colors: Macao Blue metallic and Mandarin II uni, both reminiscent of the M3 Convertible. Regardless of the color, every M4 Convertible Edition 30 Jahre model adds BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line trims for the kidney grille surround, the M side gills, the model lettering and the forged M light alloys. The 20-inch wheels are exclusively available in Orbit Grey matt and feature a star-spoke design.
Inside, the special-edition M4 boasts a Merino full-leather treatment in a matching color to the paintwork and contrast stitching, M floor mats, and carbon fiber interior trim. In addition, the "30 Jahre Edition" lettering is featuring on the door sills and the headrests for everyone to see. There's also a "1/300" plaque to remind of the car's limited availability.
