2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban get street-smart with new RST editions

Styling goes up a notch with the Rally Sport Truck pack; Tahoe gets optional 6.2L V8

Chevrolet is giving its Tahoe and Suburban big SUVs more style with the Rally Sport Truck (RST) package.

Debuting at the New York Auto Show next week, the RST pack for the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban brings what GM calls "street performance look."

The upgrades include a gloss-black grille and mirror caps, body-color grille surround and door handles, black roof rails, window trim, badging, and Chevy bowties. In tune with aftermarket trends, all chrome trim has been removed. The RST pack also features exclusive 22-inch wheels shod with Bridgestone P285/45R 22 tires.

For those customers who want to go beyond the styling enhancement, Chevy offers several performance options including a Borla performance exhaust system that brings a gain of 7-10 horsepower at the rear wheels, as well as an upgraded brake package.

In addition, the Tahoe RST will be available with a new Performance Package that consists of the 420-hp, 6.2-liter V8 engine from the Cadillac Escalade, an all-new Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission, and Magnetic Ride Control with performance calibration.

That's the first time Tahoe will offer the direct-injected 6.2-liter V8 unit that delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft (623 Nm). Chevrolet estimates the Tahoe RST Performance Package will go from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in under 6 seconds and will have a towing capacity of 8,400 lb (3,810 kg).

Full performance figures will be released closer to the launch of the Tahoe RST and Suburban RST this fall.
