And most likely behaves like one off the beaten path

Based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, the Bison assortment stands out through a long list of add-ons.

The most impressive feature, perhaps, is the amount of plating that protects the Colorado ZR2 Bison.

No less than five skid plates made of hot-stamped Boron steel – covering the engine oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case and both rear and front locking diffs – make sure rocks and other badass objects usually found on off-road trails don’t put a dent into the ZR2 Bison.

In addition, the truck’s front and rear bumpers are also of the steel variety and include a whinch and fog lights (up front) and recovery points (at the back).

Grip-wise, the rubber of choice comes as 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires that hug a set of 17×8 inch aluminum wheels.

Chevy says the Colorado ZR2 Bison uses the ZR2 as starting point so, among other gimmicks, it packs the likes of front and rear locking electronic differentials, Multimatic DSSV dampers, cast-iron control arms and an Autotrac transfer case.

Also on the menu are a modified rear axle with a ratio of 3.42, wider front and rear tracks (by 3.5 inches) and a factory-lifted factory suspension.

The Bison can be also fitted with the 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine mated to a six-speed transmission that handles 186 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. An AEV-built snorkel can also be ordered.

The 2019 Colorado ZR2 Bison goes on sale next January.
