The most off-road capable Sierra yet marks the debut of the AT4 sub-brand
Fresh from the launch of the all-new 2019 Sierra earlier this month, GMC has lifted the veils of the first-ever Sierra AT4 off-road truck. Adding off-road capability to Sierra's utility the new model marks the debut of the AT4 brand, which will appear on every GMC model in the next two years.
The 2019 Sierra AT4 means business when it comes to going off-road. It comes standard with a four-wheel drive system with a two-speed transfer case that includes low-range gearing, a 2-inch suspension lift for additional ground clearance, off-road tuned Rancho monotube shock absorbers, a locking rear differential, and Hill Descent Control. Furthermore, the truck comes with exclusive 18-inch wheels shod with all-terrain tires (20-inch rims are offered as an option).
Besides this impressive list of hardware, the Sierra AT4 packs available technologies such as Traction Select System (preset driving modes), Surround Vision (provides a bird's-eye view of the car), ProGrade Trailering System with Trailering App, and a Head-Up Display, among other things.
The engine lineup is the same as on regular 2019 Sierra trucks and includes updated versions of the 5.3-liter (standard) and 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engines as well as an all-new Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel engine. The available 6.2-liter and 3.0-liter engines work with a 10-speed automatic transmission. For improved economy, the gasoline units feature stop/start technology and Dynamic Fuel Management cylinder shut-off tech.
Styling-wise, Sierra AT4 models can be recognized thanks to the body color bumpers and grille surround, a bolder grille finished in black chrome, a high-gloss black finish for the window trim, mirror caps, and skid plate, black chrome trim on the fog lamp bezels and fender, and red accents such as the vertical tow hooks.Inside, the off-road truck sports AT4-specific darkened trim as well, leather seats with AT4 badging on the headrests, and all-weather floor mats.
The 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 goes on sale this fall.
