2019 Honda Civic Type R is $1,000 pricier

The regular 2019 Civic Hatchback also sees a bump in price

Honda USA has announced pricing and subtle upgrades for the 2019 Civic Type R and 2019 Civic Hatchback.

As things stands, the 2019 Type R will cost at least $35,700, which is a $1,000 increase over the 2018 model. Following the same route, the 2019 Civic Hatchback has a starting sticker of $21,450 instead of $20,150.

Both models go on sales at Honda dealerships on November 3. For the Civic Hatchback, Honda now offers the Sensing package as standard while the Type R gets a new Sonic Gray Pearl body color.

As part of the Honda Sensing bundle, customers get the likes of collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

Moreover, both models feature the enhanced Display Audio system that now features more physical buttons and a volume knob, while retaining the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility.

Honda says the Civic Hatchback represents 20 percent of all Civic sales in the United States. For 2019, customers will be able to opt for one of the five trim levels - LX, Sport, EX, EX-L with Navigation, and Sport Touring.

Power-wise, nothing changes. The 2019 Civic relies on the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 174 hp. However, inside the Civic Hatchback Sport and Sport Touring models, the powerplant makes 180 hp.

Just like the regular Civic, the 2019 Type R retains the 2-liter direct-injected and turbocharged four-cylinder making 306 hp channelled through a six-speed manual with automatic rev matching.
