Both inside and out, that is

The midsize pickup truck segment is no happy place to be in, so for the 2020 Tacoma to compete, Toyota had to play the add-on card.

Changes come in numbers, including a new front grille, redesigned wheels, adjustable driver’s seat and a new multimedia system that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa.

Speaking of which, Toyota says that every 2020 Tacoma gets a larger touchscreen display, but each grade receives its own set of tweaks.

2020 Tacoma SR, for example, now packs darkened taillights, and LED bed lamp (that’s optional gear) and a 7-inch multimedia display.

2020 Tacoma SR5 ups the ante with 16-inch dark satin wheels, tweaked grille and DRL headlights (optional).

2020 Tacoma TRD Sport models get the heftiest goody bag with the likes of 17-inch wheels, Passenger Smart Key entry, chrome inserts for the taillights, new LED fog lights, a Panoramic View Monitor and LED DRLs.

The Off-Road derivative of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD grabs the Multi-Terrain Monitor as well as all the above-mentioned features. In addition, Toyota’s engineers threw in a set of TRD-tuned Bilstein shocks, a locking rear diff, Hill Assist Control and Crawl Control.

Two powertrains are on tap – the 2.7-liter four-cylinder mill making 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque and the musclier 3.5-liter V6 producing 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of twist.

You can have the 2020 Tacoma as Access Cab (127.4-in wheelbase, 73.7-in bed) or Double Cab (127.4-in wheelbase, 60.5-in bed or 140.6-in wheelbase, 73.7-in bed).
