The rest is history

Armored trucks are a bank's best friend when it comes to moving around piles of cash or gold, for that matter. But by the looks of it, Porsche's Panamera Sport Turismo offers a less conspicuous alternative.

If we are to take Porsche's word for it, the Panamera Sport Turismo is a quiet and discreet machine, except it's not, or at least not when we're talking about the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo we tested a while back. Sure, every Sport Turismo can pull its own weight and more when needed, making for an escape car that might come in handy, especially if you're planning to rob a bank located near a highway.

And yes, it was meant to carry your family from A to B, but when Baird & Co. needed to transport 24 bars of gold over 12 miles through London to a new vault, Porsche and three Panamera Sport Turismos stepped up to the task.

Besides the load, each car had to accommodate four adults – the driver, a radio operator, and two security experts. A police escort and even a helicopter in overwatch joined the party, so this wasn't a drill.
