Alfa Romeo is going in full SUV mode with two new additions to the lineup
Alfa Romeo is banking on the fact that its customers want more and more SUVs. So, after the Stelvio, which has enjoyed very good reviews from the motoring press and decent sales from its launch, the Italian brand has plans to launch, by 2020, two new additional SUVs.
These will be called Castello and Kamal. The first one is the bigger brother of the Stelvio and will compete with the likes of Audi Q7, while Kamal is the smallest of the three, and is going up against Audi Q3 and BMW X1.
A leaked production plan from September 2016 states that a total of six model will be launched by 2020. Besides the two new SUVs, there will be a full-size sedan, a new small hatchback, and a special model. The last one will most likely be a performance vehicle.
Castello's engine lineup will include both four-cylinder engines, as well as V6 ones, while the Kamal will only use four-cylinder motors, with turbos. The two SUVs will use the same Giorgio modular platform, in a bid to keep development and production costs under control.
