Alfa Romeo re-enacts beauty with Disco Volante Spider

The Disco Volante Spider roadster is here to make us speak with Italian adjectives again

If there’s one word and one word only to describe best the Alfas, that would be “beautiful”. And the Disco Volante Spider roadster is here to make us speak with Italian adjectives again.

Mamma mia! Questa vettura è una vera belleza! Yes, the Alfa Romeo Volante Spider is yet another Italian motorized beauty that makes you want to abuse the Google Translate, wear a scarf and grow a mustache. Or something.

Celebrating their 90th anniversary, Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera went to their drawing boards and came up with this: a coached Alfa 8C Competizione that stands out in a crowd even more than an Alfa 8C Competizione — if only you can imagine that.

If you somehow have a feeling that you’ve heard about Disco Volante before, no, it’s not a déjà-vu: a few years ago, the same Touring Superleggera redesigned the same 8C Competizione to create the Disco Volante Coupé — the last car that’s been making us mumble in Italian.

As with the Coupé, the Spider uses a 4.7-liter V8 engine to drop 444 hp on the rear axle. So it’s not only bella, but it’s molto veloce also.

This special edition Disco Volante Spider will be built in only seven copies — and something tells me they’ve already been claimed by moustache-wearing rich people.

The Disco Volante Spider will make an appearance this spring at Geneva International Motor Show.
