All-New 2016 Renault Megane Sedan Goes On Sale This Fall

A good occasion for Renault to release full details and a big photo gallery

Acting as a successor to the Fluence, the third body style of Renault's compact family looks like a smaller version of the Talisman, due to the very similar design cues and proportions.

Like the five-door hatchback and the Sport Tourer, the Megane Sedan is based on Renault's CMF C/D platform, sharing the same features, technology, and engine variants. But its biggest asset is the boot volume. Rated at 550 liters (19.4 cu ft), the Megane Sedan boasts the largest cargo capacity in the segment according to Renault, offering 20 liters more than the Fluence.

As expected, the equipment list and engine lineup are similar to the hatch and estate. The Megane Sedan gets the optional R-Link 2 multimedia tablet with a 7-inch instrument display, Multi-Sense driving mode selector, as well as driving aids such as Adaptive Cruise Control, emergency braking, Lane Departure Warning, Easy Park Assist, and Automatic High Low Beam.

Engines include two gasoline and three diesel units, with outputs ranging from 115 PS (113 hp) to 130 PS (128 hp). The entry-level gasoline engine is the SCe 115 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder that delivers 115 PS (113 hp) and 156 Nm (115 lb-ft) of torque from 4,000 rpm. The unit is linked to a standard five-speed manual or an optional X-Tronic CVT.

The other gasoline engine is the Energy TCe 130 1.2-liter turbocharged unit rated at 130 PS (128 hp) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque from 2,000 rpm. It's offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed EDC dual-clutch box.

The diesel lineup includes two versions of the 1.5-liter dCi unit with 90 PS (89 hp) and 110 PS (109 hp). The base engine is offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission while the more powerful version also gets an available six-speed EDC dual-clutch gearbox. Both 1.5 dCi versions are the most economical of the range, averaging just 3.7 l/100 km (63.5 mpg US) and 95 g/km CO2 (official figures).

Finally, the range-topping diesel unit is the Energy dCi 130 1.6-liter engine rated at 130 hp (128 hp) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque from 1,750 rpm. It only comes with the six-speed manual.

Built in Bursa, Turkey, the latest member of the Megane family will go on sale this autumn in nearly 30 countries where compact sedans are popular.
