Ford’s Focus-based hot hatch is here, and it means business

Without any sort of teasing whatsoever, Ford has unveiled the new Focus ST. Here are the essentials.

Engine: For the new Focus ST, Ford is offering two engine options – one’s a 2.3-liter aluminum-crafted EcoBoost petrol engine, while the other one’s a 2-liter EcoBlue diesel powerplant. The former makes 280 PS and 420 Nm while the latter is good for 190 PS and 400 Nm (360 Nm are unlocked right from as low as 1,500 rpm).

Performance: With the petrol engine, the new Ford Focus ST needs just 6 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill. Sprint figures are not yet available for the diesel version.

Gearbox and other mechanical gimmicks: Ford is offering a choice of two transmissions – a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic. Moreover, the new Focus ST gets an electronic limited-slip differential, Continuously Controlled Damping, SLA (Short-Long-Arm) rear suspension, Torque Vectoring Control (solely for the diesel-powered models) as well as Launch Control.

Stopping power: Ford Performance helped fit the new Focus ST with front discs measuring 330 mm x 27 mm and dual-piston brake calipers. At the rear, the brake disks measure 302 mm x 11 mm.
