Almost new 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 going under the hammer in November

It’s expected to break records at the Silverstone Auctions’ NEC Classic Motor Show Sale

Ford used to make really exciting mainstream rear-wheel drive cars in decades past, and one of the last to fit that description is the Sierra Cosworth, especially the low series RS500 model which is now hugely sought-after. One such example in mint condition is going up for sale, where it is expected to fetch in excess of £115,000 – that’s $151,000 / €128,000.

Why is it this expensive? Well, the 1988 example, one of 500 ever built (and one of only 56 white cars delivered) has only covered 6,000 miles since new – that’s just under 10,000 km which makes it quite unique. Most of these cars were driven hard, modified and many were also crashed, so this completely stock minter does stand out.

The car is said to be in perfect condition, having been put in climate controlled storage since 2007 when it was picked up from among a collection of classic Ferraris in Germany.

This Cossie RS500 will hear the auctioneer’s gavel on November 11 – 12 at the Silverstone Auctions’ NEC Classic Motor Show Sale. Regarding its price, the aforementioned estimate is said to be conservative – it’s the exact price fetched by another RS500, a 1987 model with twice the mileage.
