The hothatch gets hotter courtesy of more horsepower

Rumors about the upcoming Mercedes-AMG A45 have been circulating for some time now on the internet, with most of the buzz revolving around what kind of firepower will Affalterbach’s pocket rocket possess.

Speaking to The Motor Report at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, AMG head honcho Tobias Moers confirmed the most hardcore of the A-Class bunch will rely on a brand new engine with more power than the current one.

Mr. Moers was also able to provide an oomph estimate of “400+ horsepower,” thus confirming the previous rumors in terms of output. However, the 2019 Mercedes-AMG A45 will not employ a re-tuned version of the M133 2-liter turbocharged powerplant that’s inside the current A45, but a whole new 2-liter engine that has “nothing in common” with the existing one.

Furthermore, Mr. Moers was keen on adding that there’s no point in having loads of power without the complementary driving dynamics.

All-wheel drive is also on the menu, together with possibly a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, but talk on the latter is yet to be confirmed or denied.
