BMW X7 Will Have a Dedicated Platform. Sort of

For those who started rumoring that the 2018 BMW X7 will be just an X5 with a longer wheelbase, the Bavarian brand stated that it’s far from being true.

Approaching its due date (which is still far away), the X7 is starting to gain more and more of our attention. Will it be a rival for the GLS? Yes, yes it will. But will it be even more than that? The last statement coming from Bavaria indicates so.

BMW X7 will not be “an extended wheelbase X5”, and it will “have its own identity” as Marketing Director Ian Robertson told AutoExpress recently. So BMW wants approach the luxury-SUV segment with a brand-new model, one that most probably will share its platform with the future Rolls-Royce “motor car” that can “cross any terrain.”

Being a highly attractive segment, the Mighty X7 will probably come in two flavors: as a standard seven-seater and an elitist four-seat version with “a distinct look.” For the latter, expect a price tag starting from $100k mark.

BMW X7 will have some great rivals to fight, in the likes of Volvo XC90, Range Rover Autobiography, and Mercedes-Maybach GLS.
