Brabus 850 XL Is a Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 on Steroids

It’s not something you’d wish to see in your rearview mirror

With 577 hp and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic is one of the quickest SUVs around.

Not for Brabus, though, which has developed a complete tuning package that transforms Mercedes' biggest SUV into an Autobahn-devouring beast.

Aptly named the Brabus 850 XL, the pimped SUV gets ridiculous amounts of power and torque from the twin-turbo V8 power plant: 838 hp (850 PS) at 5,400 rpm and 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft) of torque available between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. As a result, the 850 XL sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds and has a limited top speed of 300 km/h (186 km/h) to protect the tires.

To squeeze an additional 261 hp (265 PS) from Mercedes-AMG's 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 mill, Brabus increased displacement to 6.0 liters, with other modifications including increased cylinder bore and stroke, larger forged pistons, a special precision-balanced billet crankshaft, forged high-performance piston rods, and optimized cylinder heads.

In addition, the Brabus 850 XL received new turbochargers with larger compressor units and a stainless high-performance exhaust system with actively controlled exhaust flaps. To improve handling the Airmatic air suspension received a special control module, resulting in a lower ride height by about 30 mm (1.2 in) compared to the stock GLS 63.

Quicker than many sports cars, the 2.6-ton Brabus 850 XL also features a series of styling enhancements. These include tailor-made 23-inch Brabus Monoblock Platinum Edition wheels, a naked carbon finish for the bodywork, an aggressive aero kit with carbon elements, and a very luxurious interior combining soft Mastik leather with Alcantara, wood/carbon trim, and aluminum elements.
