Buick just shut down the idea of selling the small Adam in the United States of America.
For those who were expecting to see the small Adam (sold as Opel overseas) in Buick’s showrooms in the near future, here’s a not-so-pleasant news: it won’t happen.
Buick boss Duncan Aldred officially stated that Buick rules importing the small city car in the United States. “I very much did feel when I came over that that could really help accelerate the Buick brand story. […] I don’t see that as much. Whether the market shifted or the fashion nature of those cars has changed, I don’t know. But I wouldn’t be looking for a small, B-segment car today,” the executive told Automotive News at New York Auto Show.
The story could have been different if the gasoline prices would’ve stayed high – that way, the small Adam would’ve had another strong selling point beside its chic styling: cheap to run. Well, it’s still cheaper than most of the local figures: in the three-pot version (1.0-liter), Adam can deliver as much 113 hp, scoring only 46 mpg in combined cycle; while still turning heads with its cuteness. #amirite
