Daigo Saito’s Drift Car Is an 800 HP, 900 KG Corvette

A very unpopular choice for a drift car, isn’t it?

If you're not familiar with the drift scene, you may not have heard about Daigo Saito, but you definitely must have seen his Lamborghini Murciélago drift car.

Daigo Saito is the first driver to have conquered two drift major competitions — the D1 Grand Prix championship (2008) and the Formula D (2012). Also, he is the first driver to have modified a Lambo for drifting. Because he knows that in this discipline, it's not solely about functionality but style too.

For the 2017 season, Daigo is approaching the drifting stage with yet another unpopular decision, a Chevrolet Corvette Z06R formerly used as its creators intended it — as a GT300 race car.

As Speedhunters' Dino Dalle Carbonare shows us in his recent entry, Daigo's racetrack Corvette is in full transformation process, making stretch runs on the Fuji Speedway in search for the perfect suspension setting.

This Z06R's LS3 V8 engine holds as much as 800 hp, a figure that helps the 1,984-lb (900 kilograms) drift car achieve a bonkers hp/ton ratio of 888/1. For comparison's sake, Hennessey's Venom GT boasts an 844.2 power-to-weight ratio. We cannot wait to see this American muscle make its way sideways into the drifting scene.
