Daring Designs: 1988 Star Streak Motorhome

Love or loathe it, there’s no denying it’s chock-full of shock factor

Motorhomes or RVs are generally designed to be practical vehicles which allow you to have a home away from home, so style is not necessarily a prime concern. Not so with this motorhome, though, built in 1988 using a 1976 Cadillac ElDorado chassis and powered by a 7.5-liter Oldsmobile Toronado engine.

Only two were ever created, but as you can see by checking out the (rare, low-res photos), it was definitely a head-turner. From every angle you looke at it, there is a design touch that catches your eye and makes you look for longer than you were planning.

We can’t say whether or not it was accommodating inside, as well, as it isn’t really the biggest vehicle of its kind; it’s actually one located at the smaller end of the scales. It measures 6.85 meters in length (270 inches) and weighs just under 2,500 kg (5,400 lbs). Power-wise, the 455 cubic inch Pontiac / Oldsmobile engine made over 300 hp, so acceleration is probably not all that bad.

The vehicle is currently on display at the California Automobile Museum in Sacramento.
