Dodge slaps $62,995 price tag on 2018 Durango SRT

It will arrive in dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year

Dodge has announced pricing for the 2018 Durango SRT — or, as the automaker modestly calls it, "America's fastest, most powerful, and most capable three-row SUV."

Powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that makes 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft (636 Nm) of torque, the Durango SRT can sprint from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.4 seconds and swallow a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds — as attested by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

The first Durango SRTs will arrive in Dodge dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2017, carrying a U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $62,995 (excluding $1,095 destination).

That's a lot of money, but you do get a lot of car for it. Besides being very quick, the SRT-tuned Durango is said to out-haul every three-row SUV on the road with a best-in-class towing capability of 8,700 pounds (3,946 kilograms).

The SUV features a performance-tuned AWD system linked to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission specifically calibrated for the Dodge Durango SRT to deliver maximum torque to all four wheels and optimize shift points.

The Durango SRT uses a Bilstein active-damping high-performance suspension and rides on 20-inch Goliath wheels shod with Pirelli 295/45 ZR20 Scorpion Verde all-season tires. Stopping power is ensured by massive Brembo high-performance six-piston (front) and four-piston (rear) calipers and vented rotors at all four corners.

You won't mistake the SRT version for a lesser Durango thanks to the widebody kit, functional SRT hood, as well as more aggressive front and rear fascias and bumpers with bigger air intakes and LED fog lamps at the front and 4-inch round exhaust tips at the rear.

The cabin gets standard leather and suede, carbon fiber trim, an SRT flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, as well as seats with embroidered SRT logos, among other goodies.
