Ever wondered how many miles can you cover on an empty tank?

Let this be a lesson you’ll never need to learn on your own

Trying to answer a question that virtually every driver asked himself at some point in their lives, CarThrottle sets up the “Can You Get 50 Miles From An Empty Fuel Tank?” experiment.

In this episode, Trevor — that’s what CT’s Honda Accord sedan is called — goes for an exhaustive drive just to see how many miles can the Japanese sedan cover after the fuel gauge indicates an empty tank. When it comes to quoting the right fuel efficiency rating, the Japanese brands are among most honest.

Given the fact the test is not done in lab conditions but on public roads, the result is utterly impressive. We don’t want to spoil it for you, so here’s how it unfolded:

Unlike the previous experiment — when Alex wanted to know if the V-TEC also kicks in reverse; DUUUH! — this one is way more useful for the common (Honda Accord) user.

It’s worth mentioning, though, that by doing this, you risk harming your car. The fuel deposits residing on the bottom of your tank might clog the fuel pump’s filters, and that could lead to its failure. So let Trevor’s sacrifice be the lesson you’ll never need to learn on your own.
