Who said a racing experiment can’t get a funny twist?
Keep in mind that with the broad range of cars available today, the choice could have been different: we’re thinking a Prius and a Ferrari, but let’s stick to the fact of the matter.
The slow driver was handed a 911 Carrera while the fast driver got a car that comes from the same group as the Porsche, but has nothing to do with performance whatsoever: enter the bland Volkswagen Jetta, fitted with a modest 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
Each driver took a full lap in his assigned car just to set a baseline – thus adding a little more science to the experiment – but the outcome was this: one driver got a 1:31.40 time, while the other was almost four seconds faster, at 1:27.4.
