We already knew about the SUV, but this is a whole different level

Jumping the electric powertrain bandwagon is something every carmaker is doing these days. But an electric supercar, even from Ferrari, is really big news.

According to Bloomberg, Maranello is looking to develop a battery-powered supercar “at the high end of the electric-auto market” according to Ferrari’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne, who believes that “if there is an electric supercar to be built, then Ferrari will be first.”

When ready to finally hit the streets, this new all-electric supercar from Ferrari would challenge the likes of Tesla and its Roadster, but the Ferrari head honcho also mentioned that while Elon Musk’s company deserves all the credit for their work, other carmakers can also follow the same path.

The same report also cites Sergio Marchionne saying during the Detroit Motor Show that the company he leads will launch the much-discussed SUV – “the fastest on the market” – in 2019 or 2020. This new contraption would, in turn, aim to outgun Lamborghini’s Urus SUV.
