Future Google Maps to Add Parking Difficulty Information

It will offer live information useful for those not familiar with a given destination and its parking constraints

Google Maps has had live traffic information for a few years now, but the internet giant is about to add another feature to the world’s favorite online map service. The plan, according to Android Police, is to add live parking difficulty information via text alerts that users will receive after inputting their destination.

It’s not clear how this service will gather its information, as not even Google could do actual live tracking of the available number of spots in an area. It will most likely base its parking difficulty prediction on more general information regarding the time of day and the average recorded level of traffic congestion.

It could also take events taking place in an area into account, along with their respective spikes in the number of people heading to a specific area.

Google launched the feature as part of the v9.34 update for its Maps app, an update which also adds a button to quickly turn the map northbound, along with (a self-explanatory) accidental swipe protection in north-up mode.
