GMC Introduces Off-Road-Capable 2017 Sierra HD All-Terrain X

It can now be had with the ridiculously torquey 6.6-liter Duramax diesel

GMC has strengthened and diversified its lineup of pickups with the introduction of the new Sierra HD All-Terrain X. It’s an off-road-oriented version of the Sierra HD which can be had with either a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel or a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline V8.

The diesel packs impressive punch, with 445 hp and 1,234 Nm / 910 lb-ft. The power is channeled to all four wheels and off-road performance is aided by MT-rated LT275/65R18 Goodyear Duratrac tires, Z71 suspension, an underbody shield and an Eaton locking diff at the back.

The mechanical changes are complimented by a host of visual upgrades that definitely help this All-Terrain X model to stand out around regular Sierra trucks.

Aside from the badging, it has a body-colored grille up front, “black belt moldings, front bumper skidplate and B-pillars,” side steps, unique 18-inch black-painted rims and a bed-mounted black support bar which can accommodate extra lights for driving off-road.

Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing put it into context by saying “the new Sierra HD All Terrain X’s powerful attitude reflects a popular trend in very capable off-road trucks, executed with a range-topping level of refinement — a combination of attributes GMC has cultivated for years.”
