Heavy Camouflage Can’t Hide McLaren 650S Succesor’s Dramatic Proportions

Codenamed P14, it will take the Super Series range to new performance heights

McLaren's engineers and test drivers are working hard to put the final touches on a brand new supercar that will replace the 650S in the manufacturer's Super Series lineup.

Known internally as the P14 the supercar is expected to make its world debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. While the name is not yet known, the P14 will be the first of 15 new models McLaren has pledged to launch by 2022.

Our spy photographers caught a massively camouflaged P14 prototype in Spain that let some of its secrets out. It features radical active aerodynamics built into the body, massive gullwing doors, and reshaped LED headlights that completely change the front end design.

The photos also offer us a glimpse at the cabin, which appears to have been completely redesigned, featuring an adjustable dashboard — if you look closely at the final three photos, you'll notice the different height positions of the central cockpit.

So what's underneath the dramatically-styled bodywork? As McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt confirmed earlier this year, the P14 will be powered by an evolution of the company's existing 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.

The 650S replacement will also utilize a variation of the current MonoCell carbon fiber tub, most likely incorporating many of the changes made to improve accessibility in the Sports Series range (570S, 570GT, 540C).

As with every new McLaren model, the P14 will have to deliver superior performance to the 650S — in fact, performance targets for the new model are aggressive as the company wants to create clear space between it and the Sports Series cars.
