Honda Begins North American Production of CR-V for Global Market

Even Europe will be getting its CR-V fix from the US and Canada

Production of previous Honda CR-V generations was concentrated on Asia and the UK, but now all CR-Vs for the global market will come out of a trio of factories based in North America.

Two plants are located in the US, East Liberty, Ohio and Greensburg, Indiana, while the third one is located over the border in Canada, in Allison, Ontario.

The current CR-V marks a big change for the nameplate in that it’s the first ever to offer a turbocharged gasoline engine (a 1.5-liter unit) alongside the more familiar 2.4-liter naturally aspirated unit. For markets outside the US, we’ll definitely see a return of Honda’s excellent downsized diesel too.

Production of the CR-V has just kicked off and the manufacturer hopes to sell over 400,000 units per year in order to surpass 2015’s 345,647 sales record for the US market.
